Day 1 – Vilnius arrival
Arrival in Vilnius and transfer to your hotel.
Vilnius is known for its more than 1.200 medieval buildings and 48 churches. We suggest a walking tour of the Old Town to admire the Vilnius Cathedral, the Gediminas Tower, the St. Anne’s Church, the Old University and the Gates of Dawn. Overnight.
Day 2 – Vilnius – Trakai – Kernavé – Aukstaitija National Park – Utena (230 km)
Morning breakfast and car delivered to the hotel.From Vilnius drive to Trakai, the medieval capital of Lithuania. Do not miss the well preserved Trakai Castle, former residence of the Dukes of Courland, beautifully located on an island in Lake Galve. Afterwards, head north to Kernavé, medieval capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and today a tourist attraction and an archaeological site included into the UNESCO world heritage list. We also suggest a short walk through the lush hills that surround the town, situated in the middle of Pajauta Valley. Afterwards, drive north-est and make a stop at Aukstaitija National Park, famous for its biodiversity, situated in a beautiful region of lakes, woods and wild fauna. We suggest to visit the the 19th century wooden church, the old ethnographic village of Suminai and to stop at Ladakalnis Hill, to enjoy a wonderful panoramic view over the surrounding countryside. In the late afternoon drive to Utena. Overnight in Utena’s area.
Day 3 – Utena – Šiauliai – Palanga – Klaipėda ( 360 km)
Breakfast. From Utena continue north-westwards to Šiauliai, where you will find the striking Hill of Crosses, one of the most intense holy sites of Catholic Lithuania, symbol of the steady faith of Lithuanian people. Afterwards, drive westwards along the coast to Palanga. Along the way, we suggest you stop at the Samogitia National Park and take a walking tour around the picturesque Lake Plateliai. Palanga, the “summer capital” of Lithuania, is the busiest summer resort of the country. Situated upon the trail of the ancient Amber Road, on its beautiful sandy beaches you can happen to find small pieces of amber brought by the sea. We also suggest a visit to the Botanical Gardens, to the Tiskevicius Palace. And to the Amber Museum (one of the bigger in Europe). Afterwards, continue to Klaipėda, which has a long history as a German town called Memel and first became a part of Lithuania in 1923. We suggest a sightseeing tour to the Old Town with its narrow cobblestone streets and old guild houses: do not miss the Theatre Square and the Aennchen von Tharau Fountain. Overnight in Klaipėda.
Day 4 – Klaipėda – Nida – Klaipėda (100 km)
Morning breakfast and full day dedicated to the visit of to the Curonian Spit, a 100-km spit of land between the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon with small fishing villages, pine forests and endless sand dunes. A ferry from Klaipeda will take you to the spit and once there you will be able to reach Nida, one of the most attractive places on the entire Baltic Sea Coast. This charming town, situated at the Curonian Lagoon, is a combination between an old-fashioned fishing village and a fashionable sea resort. Enjoy its high dunes and pay a visit to Thomas Mann’s summerhouse. We also suggest to reach the Hill of Witches in Juodkrante, before going back to Klaipėda. Overnight in Klaipėda.
Day 5 – Klaipėda – Šiluva – Kaunas ( 250 km)
Breakfast. From Klaipėda drive eastwards to Kaunas. Along the way, we suggest a stop in Šiluva, Catholic spiritual centre due to the Blessed Virgin Mary apparition in 1608, where you will find the oldest sanctuary in Lithuania. Afterwards, continue to Kaunas, leading centre of Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. Take a stroll in the charming Old Town with its elegant white Baroque Town Hall and the Gothic cathedral. Overnight in Kaunas.
Day 6 – Kaunas – Druskininkai – Dzukija National Park – Vilnius (260 km)
From Kaunas head southwards to Druskininkai, famous spa town since the 19th century. The town is surrounded by wonderful landscapes of lakes, rolling hills and forests. Do not miss the Dzukija National Park, just a few km from Druskininkai. In the late afternoon drive back to Vilnius and drop-off of the car at the hotel.Overnight.
Day 7 – Vilnius departure
Free time to visit Vilnius and for the shopping. Transfer to Vilnius’s airport.
